Live imaging of remyelination in the adult mouse corpus callosum

Significance Oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) retain the capacity to remyelinate axons upon demyelinating injury. However, mode of cell division and differentiation dynamics individual OPCs in deep brain structures, such as corpus callosum, remains unknown. Using vivo two-photon imaging a focal model demyelination, we show that undergo several rounds symmetric asymmetric divisions before producing subset daughter differentiates into myelinating oligodendrocytes. The data presented here characterize behavior OPC clones delineate cellular principles lead remyelination.
